Hi everyone, very pleased cos the pred seems to be working!!! been taking 30mg since Friday, and today hardly any pain!! I could walk downstairs using both legs for the first time in over a year. Pain is much less, its like a miracle!! I know its only a short term solution, but its great at the moment. Have to reduce dose from next Friday to 25mg for 3 days then 20mg etc down to 5mg on regular basis.
On another note, my sister has had alot of pain and swelling in hands and feet for a few months, I fnally persuaded her to have tests, and she got the results today, she is positive for rheumatoid factor. Her GP has referrred her to rheumatology, so now she starts the long road to finding the right drugs. Her name is Maureen, and she is two years younger than me, with one son. She doesnt have a computer so cant join us, as never learnt to use one, but I will keep her up to date on all that goes on here. Sad news, but not unexpected. Hope everyones doing ok Smile

Hi Barbie,
I am so pleased for you that you have at last got some control over all your pain.

What a shame about your sister. Is she going to see the same consultant as you?
Please give her my love and tell her to get a computer so she can join us!
( I had never used a computer up to 2 years ago!)

Love, Doreen xx

Good news about the prednisolone Barbara. You're right in saying that it's not a long term solution but am so pleased you are now heading in the right direction to find what the long term solution is for you.

Sorry to hear about your sister - tell her we'll be thinking of her and I'm sure you can now help her in getting the right advice after what you have just been through.

Hi Doreen and Julie, thank you for your replies. Maureen will definitely go to Guy's rheumy, but may see a different consultant, but not sure. A friend of mine's mother used to see the one I am under and thought he was wonderful. Maybe we just clash as patient and doctor. I dont know if she can afford to get a laptop or PC, her son could show her how to use it, but will have to see. Thanks for caring Smile

Hi Barb

What great news - I am so relieved that your pain has lesseed, especially after the horrendous time you have had lately.

So sorry to hear about Maureen - she may, however, be one of the lucky ones who get the right combo of drugs from the outset.

Much love to you

So sorry Barbie to hear about your sister. It is such a shame that both of you have this dashed condition .

It is lovely news that you are feeling better with the steroids. Feels like a holiday but other treatments are better long term I think. Enjoy it while you are taking them.

Oh Barbara, a happy and sad post!

SO pleased the steroids are doing their magic, but very sad to hear the news about Maureen, that is distressing.

Much love and prayers for you both,

Amanda

gosh, it's so good to hear you have some relief, and at a time when you need to be strong for your family. Say hi to Maureen from us all, and get her to join NRAS anyway for all the good advice and helpline stuff? Make sure you maximise how much sleep you get while you have the chance to settle down at night pain free, rest those joints as they settle down, try and resist the temptation to do everything you've been wanting to but couldn't - just do some of it! i've knocked myself out a couple of times when i've entered a stretch of pain free time. so pleased for you treatment news. So soory to hear your sister's news. And don't forget to let me know when you're up my way. PM or no PM! xfx

Hi Barbara,

I'm really enjoying my prednisolone holiday as well! BigGrin

My younger sister has RA as well, although she has had it longer than me. We now have the same rheumy and share everything. We would never, ever wish each other to be suffering and desperately want each other to be well, but it is an amazing support in every way.
I hope you both find strngth from each other.

take care,
Alison

Hi barbara
Glad u are having a good spell still take care not to overdo things & lots of pamper time (...should be available on free prescription!)

So sorry about your sister, you will be support for each other tho', please send my love and hope she has access to a computer sometime soon.
How old is Maureen's son, i heard there's a government initiative to enable access to a computer - not sure exactly how this will be done & think it applies to certain age groups, maybe means tested not sure but i think there would be info on www.directgov.uk

My sisters not well at the moment she has been tested for auto immune but nothing showing, no inflammation so now severe restrictions on what to eat, waiting for appointment while try to work what's what...
Hope Maureen gets good treatment and u both are able to support each other, take care

Love n hugs ~ Liz xxxxx

I haven't been posting much lately because we are decorating but I have been reading and keeping up with things and have been shocked at how you have been treated.

I am so, so pleased that you have now got some relief from your pain and have found a good consultant. I think that this must be a message to all us that if we are not happy with things to try to find another consultant.

Sorry to hear about your sister though, the only good thing about it is she's got you to help and talk to about it......will she be seeing the same consultant as you?

Take Care

Hi Barb

So glad to hear you have some relief from the pain, prednisolone is just like a miracle, that's what I felt when I had my first injection! I hope it lasts a long time for you.

I'm sorry about your sister, I should think you were both half expecting it, but even so it will be a shock for her. It's good that she has you to turn to for expert advice!

Hi Ly, thanks for the message. Yes, it wasnt unexpected really, but at least she has been able to move forward far more quickly than I was able to, due to the GPs (3 of them) telling me I "only had OA" and to just live with it. Her GP listened about our mother having RA and then me, and tested straight away.
Just waiting now to see how long for the appt Smile
